Movie Review: Dulhaniya Le Aayegi: Khushali Kumar’s film targets the thinking of society, not relationships.

Should it be the biggest priority to get a girl married as soon as she crosses the age of 30? This is the question raised by director Akashaditya Lama’s film ‘Dulhania Le Aayegi’. This film, woven in the fabric of comedy, emotion and family relationships, along with entertainment, also gives an important social message that marriage has no expiry date. In the end, the director gives the message that even though the government has fixed the minimum age for marriage of girls, there is no expiry date for marriage. A girl should marry only when she finds the right life partner. However, in the first half the story progresses a bit slowly and many events seem predictable. If a little more work had been done on the screenplay, the film could have been more impressive. How is the acting of the star cast? Khushhali Kumar has played the character of Navya with complete honesty. She has well portrayed the emotions of a girl who tries to strike a balance between family happiness and her own life decisions. Omkar Kapoor looks comfortable in his character and is successful in giving lightness to the story. Mahesh Manjrekar leaves an impact as a concerned father. The emotional scenes between her and Khushhali Kumar are among the film’s strongest sequences. Piyush Mishra impresses like every time with his strong screen presence and dialogue delivery. Even though his character is not very long, wherever he appears, he leaves his mark. Direction and technical aspects: Director Akashaditya Lama has presented a serious social issue in a light and entertaining manner instead of making it heavy. This is the biggest strength of the film. He has kept the story simple and easy for the family audience. The cinematography suits the atmosphere of the film and the use of colors looks attractive. The editing could have been a little tighter in the first half, but the story picks up a good pace in the second half. The dialogues make one smile at many places, while the climax leaves an emotional impact. How is the music of the film? The music of the film is one of its strong points. The song ‘Bitiya Parai Nahi Hoti’ is emotionally heart touching and strengthens the message of the film. Whereas ‘Jalwa Dikha Jaye’ adds a touch of entertainment to the story. Both the songs match the mood of the film well and are memorable. Final Verdict: To watch or not? ‘Dulhaniya Le Aayegi’ doesn’t tell a very different story, but it definitely raises important questions on the pressure and mindset of girls in the society regarding marriage.
