Kantara controversy, Ranveer Singh reached Chamundeshwari temple: Visited after High Court order in mimicry case; The ban was imposed a day ago

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh performed special prayers at Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysore on Tuesday morning. He has taken this step after the order of Karnataka High Court, which was given against him in the mimicry case of Daiva scene of the film ‘Kantara’. In April, the court had ordered him to visit the temple within four weeks. This temple visit of Ranveer Singh has happened at a time when a day earlier the Film Federation (FWICE) had issued non-cooperation instructions against him and banned him for leaving the film ‘Don 3’. Like a common devotee, Ranveer Singh reached Mysore on Tuesday morning by standing in a queue for darshan. Earlier, he was seen at Mumbai airport early in the morning. According to India Today report, the actor did not use any VIP facility. He stood in the queue like a common devotee and had darshan of Goddess Chamundeshwari. He had a mask on his face till the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum, which he removed before going inside. They had arrived empty handed without any puja material and offered special prayers at the temple. The controversy started from the Goa Film Festival. This entire controversy started from the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa last year on 30 November 2025. In this function, Ranveer Singh mimicked the famous ‘Daiva’ scene of the film ‘Kantara’, in which the film’s director and lead actor Rishabh Shetty was seen. After the video of this performance went viral on social media, a large section of the Kannada community expressed strong displeasure. After this, an FIR was lodged in Karnataka against Ranveer for hurting the sentiments of the Kannada community. The High Court had ordered to visit the temple. After the FIR was registered in the case, Ranveer Singh had approached the Karnataka High Court for relief in February 2026. Then the court had stayed any punitive action against him. After this, in April, Ranveer filed an amended affidavit in the court and apologized without any condition. He also clarified on his social media post that his intention was only to appreciate the excellent acting of Rishabh Shetty and he respects all cultures. On this, the court indicated closure of the case and ordered him to go to the temple. Specialty of Chamundeshwari Temple: Located in Mysore, Karnataka, this temple is one of the most revered Shaktipeeths of South India, where the court of Mother Chamundeshwari is decorated. The biggest specialty and belief of this temple is that devotees cannot come here only by planning, but darshan of the goddess is possible only when the mother herself calls. There is an unwavering belief among the devotees that no matter what the circumstances may be, when the Mother calls her, the devotees automatically reach her court and reaching here is considered a great good fortune, a means of getting respect and blessings. This temple visit of Ranveer, who reached Mysore just the day after the ‘Don 3’ controversy, has happened at a time when he is surrounded by another big controversy. On Monday itself, Film Federation FWICE has issued a non-cooperation directive against him. He is accused of backing out of the film ‘Don 3’ project at the last moment, due to which director Farhan Akhtar and the makers suffered a loss of around Rs 45 crore. The very next day after this big decision, Ranveer was seen praying in the temple of Mysore.
