In Punjab, girls were sold on the pretext of getting them to work in films with the promise of huge payment. This has been disclosed by a girl from Mohali. He alleges that he was given roles in some films. After this, it was sold further in UP for Rs 1.5 lakh.

The girl says that she could not find out about the horse-trading because she was married to a boy on the pretext of shooting a film. She came to know about this when the young man who had accompanied her during the shooting came to her room to celebrate the wedding night with her.
The victim says that the young man’s uncle listened to her entire story. He was in UP Police. They took him back to Mohali. Now the State Women Commission has taken cognizance of this matter. Besides, orders have been given to Mohali Police to immediately start a high level investigation in the matter. The Commission has also sought an action taken report by sending the video link and screenshots to the police.

- The identified girl was found while working in the mall: During the press conference in Mohali, the victim told that she used to work in a shopping mall in Mohali. In the month of April, a girl named Mandeep, his acquaintance, was found there. The victim told- Mandeep asked me what are you doing these days? I told him I work in the mall. He asked how much money do you get? I said 18 thousand rupees. On this Mandeep said that she can get me up to Rs 50 thousand a month.
- The accused lived near the house, left his job because of her: The victim told that she had asked Mandeep what to do? On this Mandeep had told that he wants to work in films. Seeing her physical structure and height, she had said that she would get work in short movies. After this he came to know that Mandeep lives near his house. She met him once or twice. After this he left the job and started working with Mandeep.
- Won trust by getting work done: The victim says that Mandeep gave her work in films and one month went very well. Shooting took place at many places in Mohali. He got a chance to shoot many films. Got small roles. Good payment also came in return. In such a situation, the trust in Mandeep increased further.
- Took to Firozpur on the pretext of film shoot: According to the victim, in the month of May, Mandeep said that there was a film shooting in Firozpur. The shoot will continue there for 4 to 5 days. The victim talked to her mother on this. After this, she came to Firozpur by bus saying that she would shoot for 5-6 days.
- Made rounds in Gurudwara on the pretext of shooting: The victim said- We were made to stay in a house in the village of Firozpur. Everything seemed normal there. There were other girls in the house where we stayed. Mandeep said that there is a marriage shoot, he has to participate in it. For this I was given a new dress. It was said that there will be a phera scene in it. A woman and 5 people came there in a car. I thought it was part of the shooting. After this, rounds were made in Gurudwara Sahib.

- At night the young man arrived for the wedding night: The victim told- After this Mandeep said that now some scenes are to be done at another place. In such a situation, I came to Uttar Pradesh with him. There, at 10 pm, the young man with whom the wedding scene took place came into the room. He started behaving like a husband. I told him not to joke like that. To this his reply was that he had bought me for Rs 1.5 lakh.
- Showed video of selling for Rs 1.5 lakh: The victim girl says that the young man showed her a video in which Rs 1.5 lakh was being given to Mandeep and his associates. Besides, they were talking only about her (the victim).
- The boy’s uncle asked for Rs 1.5 lakh back: The girl told that in the meantime the boy’s uncle, who was in UP Police, arrived. He said that no wrong will happen to you, but Rs 1.5 lakh has been given for you. Get that amount returned.
- Mandeep did not recognize, father arranged money: The victim said- I first called Mandeep, but he refused to recognize me. After this I got him to talk to father. I asked him to arrange the money. The young man’s uncle also assured my father that nothing would happen to his daughter. After this, within a day or two, my family arranged the money and I came back to Mohali.

The victim said – the whole process was a part of human trafficking
The victim told that she was given small roles in the shooting of many films and short films. These include films like Chaddi Kalan, Yaar Jingri Kasuti Degree, etc. However, he did not get a chance to work with any big actor. The victim alleges that she was taken to different places in the name of film shooting and later it was revealed that the entire process was a part of human trafficking.
According to the victim, Mandeep was known to her. Mandeep is a resident of Firozpur. However, she lives near the victim’s house in Mohali. The victim alleges that he sold her to a young man named Prince in Uttar Pradesh for Rs 1.5 lakh. He was a resident of Muzaffarnagar.
Police did not take action
The victim girl says that she had gone to Mohali police regarding this matter, but no hearing was given to her. After this she had to lodge a complaint with the Women’s Commission. The Women’s Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and recommended the SSP of Mohali Police to register an FIR in the matter.
Besides, the complete investigation report of this case has also been called for. However, the police are currently refraining from saying anything in this matter.
