Producer of the film ‘OMG-2’ Ashwin Varde has broken his silence on the allegations of actor Paresh Rawal. Ashwin has called Paresh’s claims completely wrong and baseless. Recently, Paresh Rawal had alleged in a podcast that he had written Oh My God 2, but he was not given credit for it. Countering this, Ashwin said that Paresh Rawal wanted to make this script under some other name and he wanted to keep Akshay Kumar away from this project. Ashwin has put the whole story in front of everyone. ‘Paresh wanted to change the name of the film’ According to Ashwin Varde, the copyright and intellectual property (IP) rights of the film ‘OMG’ belong only to Akshay Kumar. Writer Amit Rai wrote the original script of ‘OMG-2’. Paresh Rawal wanted to make this script under some other name so that Akshay Kumar could be kept away from this project completely. Ashwin has directly called this attempt of Paresh as script theft and unethical act, because he wanted to use the format of his film without Akshay Kumar’s approval. Other actors of the film industry also refused to work in it because they knew that it was Akshay Kumar’s film and it would be wrong to make it without his permission. To stop this piracy and secure the script, Ashwin Varde’s company bought its rights from Amit Rai in an attempt to keep Akshay Kumar away. After this, when Ashwin told Paresh Rawal that due to morality he would first show this script to Akshay Kumar, Paresh was adamant that the film should not be made in the name of ‘OMG’. Even after much persuasion by Akshay Kumar and Ashwin, Paresh Rawal was not ready to work in the film and he walked away from the film. Despite this, upon the release of the film, Paresh Rawal was given producer’s credit in the name of his wife and business partner without any contribution and was also paid his full fee. Ashwin clarified that he had not cheated Paresh, but had stopped him from doing an unethical act. The film’s director also got angry at Paresh. OMG-2 director and writer Amit Rai has also completely rejected Paresh Rawal’s claims. Amit made it clear that everything from the story, script, concept and design of the characters to the film was written by him himself. This entire work is registered in his name with the Screenwriters Association and every draft of it has the seal of the association. Questioning the career of Paresh Rawal, he said that in his entire journey there is no such film which he himself has thought of and given to someone to make. Amit expressed surprise that three years after the release of the film, why is Paresh Rawal saying these things with wrong intentions, whereas he and his partner have been clearly given the producer’s credit at the very beginning of the film. I wrote OMG-2, but was not even given credit. Amidst the controversy with Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal has claimed that he had written the script of the film Oh My God 2, but later it was changed and he was not even given credit. When Vicky Lalwani asked Paresh Rawal in the interview the reason for not doing the film Oh My God 2, he said – ‘I had done Road to Sangam with Amit Rai (director). I am his fan. So I asked him if he had thought of doing anything else. I told him that I have an idea, let’s do it together. ‘The idea was that a boy was caught masturbating, his video went viral, it was becoming a joke. His father is a tourist guide of Khajuraho. But Amit thought of showing his father as the priest of Mahakal also. I sat and discussed this with a sexologist friend for 5 hours so that this idea does not appear vulgar. Wanted to cast Salman-Ajay further, Paresh Rawal said, ‘Then we added such a character of a biker or a person selling goods, who will come for 4-5 scenes in between and go away after giving knowledge. I went to Ajay Devgan for the role of a biker, I also went to Salman Khan. If I had gone to Akshay, I would have felt that Oh My God 2 is being made. Went to Vipul Shah and also had a meeting. Later I got a call from Amit that something had gone wrong. I asked ‘What happened?’, then he said, ‘They are taking interest in this film.’ When asked who, he said- ‘Akshay has to do a film.’ Paresh Rawal further said, ‘Amit had unknowingly or foolishly written OMG 2 on this script. While we had to do an out-of-the-box idea like OMG, it wasn’t OMG 2. They took the script from Amit. I told Amit that this is not a franchise. But I can’t quarrel with you. Akshay wanted Paresh Rawal to do a film. Paresh Rawal has told that Akshay came to him and asked him to do a film, but he refused. On this, Paresh Rawal said- ‘If this was a sequel, I would definitely have done the film, would have taken the money after printing it, and would have also taken credit for the story. Sadly, I didn’t even get credit for the story. I am not a storyteller, but the idea of the story was Paresh’s, no such credit was given. Paresh further told that Akshay Kumar knew that he wrote the story. Karan Johar also knows, Somen Mishra, Ashwin Varde also know. Salman Khan also knew. Amit Rai himself directed OMG 2. After Paresh Rawal’s departure from the film, Amit Rai himself directed the film based on his script. The credit for the story was also given to Amit Rai. In this, Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam were in lead roles. This film was released in 2023 and was a hit, which is the sequel of 2012 film OMG. The Censor Board had made many changes in the film.
