Regarding the salary of background dancers, Panipat resident choreographer and group leader Aman Sharma has started a campaign on social media for the interests of background dancers. He says that thousands of dancers in Haryana have been forced to work in low wages and difficult conditions for years.
Aman Sharma told that he has been working as a choreographer in Haryanvi industry for the last 15 years and is currently living in Sonipat. According to him, about 7 to 8 thousand background dancers are active in entire Haryana, who work in various music videos and stage programs. Social media campaign is getting support from artists
Aman Sharma told that he started raising the issue of background dancers through social media five days ago. After this, artists from all over Haryana have started coming out in his support. He claimed that many big artists including singer Masoom Sharma, dancer Sapna Chaudhary, Pranjal Dahiya, Aman Jaji Team, Mukesh Jaji Team are sharing his videos and justifying the demands of the dancers.
Accusations of exploitation against producers, directors and companies
Aman Sharma alleged that some producers, directors and companies are exploiting background dancers and not paying them their fair wages. He said that more than 200 producers, about 400 directors and 700 to 800 companies are active in Haryana, but there is no fixed payment system in place for the dancers.
6 to 8 dancers in one song, up to 100 artists in big projects
Aman Sharma told that normally 6 to 8 background dancers work in a song. He claimed that he had provided more than 100 background dancers for the song “Meethe Tere Bol Pari”. In that project, all the dancers were paid Rs 1500. However, he said that in about 95 percent of the songs in Haryana, even today the dancers are paid only Rs 1000 to 1200.
Income reaches only 20 to 25 thousand rupees in a month.
According to Aman Sharma, the entire family of background dancers depends on this work. He told that on an average a male artist gets work for about 15 days in a month and a female artist gets work for 20 to 25 days. Despite this, the monthly income of an artist reaches only around Rs 20 to 25 thousand, which also includes rent and other expenses.
