Himanshu Jangra, a 22-year-old web developer, was fired from Gurugram-based company Starwick Design. This action was taken after protests against his comments about women in a viral video. The controversy started during stand-up comedian Pranit More’s live crowd-work comedy show in Gurugram. During a conversation on the show, Jangra mentioned a dating experience where he had spent around ₹360–₹370 on a chicken biryani on a woman. He also said that when the woman asked him to drop her home, he expected physical intimacy as compensation for his expenses. Pranit More initially laughed at this comment and called it peak Gurugram content and also gave him reward money for being funny. The video of the program later went viral on social media. Pranit apologized after protest on social media. People criticized Jangra’s comment on many platforms including Instagram and X. As the protests escalated, Pranit More publicly apologized. In the Instagram story, More had written that I accept the criticism received regarding the recently viral clip. Viewer comments are not my views. I should have replied better at that time. We have removed the video. I apologize and will handle such matters with more responsibility and sensitivity in future. Himanshu Jangra was fired from the job. Starwick Design took action against Jangra in this matter and fired him from the job. Company founder Vivek Vishwakarma issued a video statement saying, “In the last 24 hours, I have received hundreds of messages, emails and phone calls regarding one of our employees, Himanshu Jangra. Like all of you, I have also seen the video clips going viral on social media. I want to say clearly that the things shown in those videos are objectionable. I do not agree with those things. Our company also does not support such views nor do we want such things to influence the youth. Do it.” No complaint was received against Himanshu in the office. Vivek Vishwakarma said, “We also talked to our team, especially the female employees. We reviewed Himanshu’s behavior in the office and asked many important questions, but the interesting thing is that we did not receive any complaint against him. The team members described him as a professional, respectable, hardworking and well-behaved employee.” He further said, “But this incident that happened outside the workplace is now affecting the workplace as well. I have a responsibility towards the company, employees, customers and the environment here. Therefore, we have decided to separate from Himanshu.” Vivek Vishwakarma also said that mistakes have consequences, but with time young developers should be given a chance to learn, understand themselves and move forward.
