Famous singer Suman Kalyanpur died on Sunday evening at her residence in Mumbai at the age of 89. According to reports, the reason for his death was age related problems. Her close friend Mangala Khadilkar told that Suman ji breathed his last at around 8 pm. She was listening to her own songs for the last few days and said goodbye to the world very peacefully. His last rites will be performed at Pawan Hans cremation ground between 11:30 and 12 noon on Monday morning. He is survived by his daughter Charu. He received the Padma Bhushan award in 2023. Made a special identity in the 1960s and 1970s Suman Kalyanpur had made a special identity in the music world with her melodious voice in the 1960s and 1970s. The voice of Suman Kalyanpur was similar to that of Lata Mangeshkar. The singing style, purity of notes and voice structure of both were considered similar. Many times, even Lata Mangeshkar ji’s assistants and those close to her were confused between her voice and that of Suman ji. Due to this quality, when there was a dispute between Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi in the 1960s, Suman Kalyanpur became the first choice of the film industry and she sang many blockbuster songs with Rafi Sahab. Amin Sayani was made to wait for 45 years. Well-known radio announcer Amin Sayani kept asking Suman ji for an interview for 45 years. But Suman avoided it every time. Finally, after 45 years, the wait for Amin Sayani ended in 2005, when Suman ji agreed to an interview of one hour. However, she approved the interview only on the condition that no one would take her photo and if she found any question uncomfortable, she would not answer it. The neighbor asked her father to teach her music. Suman was inclined towards painting and music since childhood. Due to which, after school, I also did graduation in Arts. She wanted to become a painter but Suman’s voice was tested by her neighbor and father’s friend Pandit Keshav Rao Bhole. He asked Suman’s father to teach music to Suman. At first Suman was learning music as an amateur but with time her interest in it started increasing. She started learning music more seriously.
