The Central Government has appointed eminent lyricist, writer and communication expert Prasun Joshi as the new Chairman of Prasar Bharati. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made its official announcement on Saturday. The statement issued by the ministry said that Prasoon Joshi is a well-known creative professional, who has made significant contributions in the fields of literature, advertising, cinema and public communication. Due to his influential writings and deep cultural understanding, he has played an important role in shaping the Indian media narrative. Joshi’s work includes popular film songs, iconic advertising campaigns and social cause storytelling that connects with diverse audiences across the country. A glimpse of sensitivity, patriotism and social thinking can be seen in his songs. Ashwini Vaishnav congratulated him and said that under his leadership, Prasar Bharati will get new energy and creative direction. He described Joshi as a multifaceted personality with global recognition in the world of literature, advertising, art and cinema. Prior to this appointment, Prasoon Joshi, former chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, was serving as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) since August 2017. During his tenure, significant efforts were made towards strengthening the film certification process and striking a balance between creative expression and regulatory responsibilities. Born in Almora, Prasoon Joshi, born in Almora, Uttarakhand, after primary education also studied in the field of management and communication. He has written memorable songs for many popular Hindi cinema films like Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Fanaa, Hum Tum and Black.
