Singer Kailash Kher recently rejected a request to sing an on-demand song at a program in Delhi. He said that insisting on singers to recite two lines while walking in public programs hurts the dignity of the artiste. According to the singer, artists should not be considered a means of entertainment or ‘clowns’. Singer Kailash Kher, who got angry at the event in Delhi, had attended the seventh edition of ‘Six Sigma Leadership Summit’ at Taj Palace in Delhi on 25 April. During the event, the singer became uncomfortable when the host asked him to sing a few lines to entertain the audience. Expressing his displeasure on the mic itself, he said, “I want to change this thinking. The singer or the music should not be treated as if ‘Sir, sing two lines, create a mood’. This is very wrong, do not make such requests.” To clarify his point by comparing Sachin and Army jawan, Kailash Kher gave the example of cricket and army. He said, would you ever ask Sachin Tendulkar to show off by hitting a six? Or will you ask an army soldier to take his position and fire a shot? Artists are seekers, don’t make them clowns.
