Actress Isha Singh is seen in Colors TV’s new show ‘Juhi Mui’. In this show, she is playing the character of an autistic girl for the first time. Autistic is a person who is suffering from autism. Autism is not a disease, but a special condition related to brain development. Due to this, the way a person sees the world, understands it and interacts with others is different from ordinary people. Recently, in a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Esha Singh shared her character, her preparation, awareness about autism and many things related to the show… Question: How did you prepare for your character in the show ‘Juhi Mui’? Answer: I have worked very hard for this character. Gave so many auditions after a long time. First sent the video from home, then audition in the office, followed by mock shoot and many rounds. For this role, I did workshops, met autistic people, watched their interviews and did a lot of research. I try not to hurt the sentiments of the people I am representing. Question: How important is it to do a TV show on a topic like autism? Answer: I am trying my best to make people understand autism through this show. Even today TV reaches every corner of the country. There are many people who do not have reach of OTT. If we can spread awareness among people through our show, what would be better than this. People often call a child ‘mad’ without understanding, whereas many times they are more sensitive and intelligent than us. They need to be understood, not changed. If I can change the thinking of even 0.2 percent people, I will feel that I have done something good. Question: What do you find to be the biggest similarity between Isha and Juhi? Answer: We both are very emotional. The only difference is that I express my emotions, but Juhi is not able to do so. Whereas, Juhi notices small things very deeply. From him I have learned to be more sensitive and kind. Question: Will this character prove to be a milestone in your career? Answer: Absolutely. This character will always be special for me. I don’t know how big a hit the show will be, but Juhi will always be close to my heart. This is not a typical heroine. If people understand his emotions then they will start loving him. Question: Most of your shows have been on some social issue or the other? Answer: I consider myself very lucky. My first show ‘Ishq Ka Rang Safed’ was on widow remarriage, while ‘Ishq Subhan Allah’ was on triple talaq and now I am working on topics like autism. If a good message is reaching the society through my work, then nothing can be bigger than this for me. Question: How difficult is it to play such a challenging character? Answer: It is very tiring mentally. After shooting for 12 hours, you don’t get out of the character completely, but after the shoot is over, I laugh, talk with everyone and then the next day I become Juhi again. Question: Your character will be compared to Priyanka Chopra’s character in ‘Barfi’. How do you see it? Answer: Priyanka Chopra is my favorite actress. It doesn’t matter whether there is comparison or not. His character has been one of my dream roles. Juhi and her character are different, but I am happy that I also got a chance to play such a role. Question: What kind of research did you do for this character? Answer: I met autistic people from different spectrums. Observed him and learned many things from him. Question: Who got the most special reaction regarding this show? Answer: Messages came from many mothers and NGOs. He said that for the first time a show is trying to understand his children. A mother wrote that people consider her autistic child as a disease. If our show can change this thinking then I would not be happier than this. Question: The show is being compared to a K drama show. What will you say on this? Answer: I didn’t even watch that show at first. The research I did was quite Indianized. My only question is how many shows are there in India spreading awareness on autism? Even today many people do not know what autism is. If our show can convey this message to people and bring even a slight change in their thinking, then what would be better than this. So watch the show first. Instead of just comparing or criticizing, understand its message also. Question: How do you handle trolling and judgment on social media? Answer: In today’s time it has become very easy to judge someone. There are both good and bad things about me too, but I only focus on the positive things and keep doing my work. Question: What was the family’s reaction to the show? Answer: My mother watched the first episode without me. My brother said it was the best work I’ve ever done. I was most happy to hear this.
