Diljit Dosanjh’s film Sutlej was released on OTT platform Zee5 on July 2, which was suddenly removed on July 5 without any reason. Controversy arose due to the removal of the film. Many celebs are opposing this and supporting Diljit and the filmmakers. Diljit has also appealed to the fans to share as many downloaded films as possible. According to new reports, the film has been removed from the OTT platform on government orders under IT Rules 2021. According to the report of Times of India, the Central Government directed to remove the film ‘Sutlej’ from ZEE5. According to government sources, this decision was taken citing security concerns and obligations set under the Information Technology (IT) Rules, 2021. According to a government official, the filmmakers had applied for certification from CBFC in 2022 with the title ‘Punjab 95’. However, 127 cuts suggested by the Censor Board were not accepted, following which the film’s release was put on hold. “The filmmakers did not implement the cuts suggested by the censor board and later changed the name of the film to quietly release it on OTT. Since OTT does not fall under the jurisdiction of the CBFC, ZEE5 was asked to remove the film when the matter came to the notice of the government,” the official said. Let us tell you that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) does not regulate the content released on the OTT platform. It is governed under Part-3 of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap compared the film with Iranian filmmakers. After the film was removed from the OTT platform, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap wrote from his official social media account, ‘Sutlej, I never thought that one day Honey Trehan would have to face the same situation as Jafar Panahi had to face in Iran.’ Let us tell you that Jafar Panahi had to face government restrictions, arrests and censorship regarding his films and freedom of expression in Iran. The film is being shared on social media. After the film was removed from the OTT platform, Diljit Dosanjh said, ‘I am not worried. I thought the film would already be removed. Many people have already downloaded this movie. Share the film as much as possible and make it reach as many people as possible. After this statement of Diljit came out, many fans are uploading the film on YouTube and social media. G5 appealed to stop piracy. After Diljit’s statement came out, G5 has issued an official statement saying, ‘We have hope and we are doing everything for it. Please do not support piracy. According to sources, there is concern that some scenes and content of the film may be used to create an atmosphere in favor of the pro-Khalistan movement, especially before the Punjab Assembly elections. The government believes that “in such cases, issues related to national security are paramount. This is not a matter of politics.
