The way has been cleared for the renovation of actor Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan’s Mumbai bungalow ‘Mannat’. The Supreme Court has rejected the petition seeking a ban on building two new floors in Mannat. The bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant also raised questions on the intentions of petitioner Santosh Daundkar.

The court said that if someone wants to make changes or construction in his private house then it is his choice, the law has been broadly followed.

Questions raised on the intentions of the petitioner During the hearing, the Supreme Court raised questions on the intentions of Mumbai social activist Santosh Daundkar who filed the petition. The bench said that it is a private house. If the people living in it want to make changes as per their own, then it is their choice. The court said that the law has been broadly followed, so why should any neighbor or any other person interfere in it.

Petitioner’s lawyer Shoaib Alam argued that the case pertains to a famous star, hence it should not be viewed differently. But the court made it clear that it is not influenced by the popularity of any person.

There is a plan to increase two more floors in Mannat Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan want to build two more residential floors above their six-storey bungalow. Gauri Khan had prepared a proposal to add two additional floors in the annex building of the bungalow. Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCJMA) had given approval for this on January 3, 2025.

The petitioner had challenged this approval as a violation of environmental rules and Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. He said that for projects worth more than Rs 5 crore, approval from the Environment Ministry is necessary, which was ignored.

NGT had also rejected the petition Before the Supreme Court, the Pune bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had also rejected this petition in September 2025. NGT had said in its decision that environmental rules have been completely followed in the project and there is no flaw in the approval process.

NGT had accepted that this construction falls in CRZ-2 zone. Under the rules, additional construction is allowed in a residential building in this zone. The petitioner had challenged this decision of NGT in the Supreme Court, which has now been rejected by the Supreme Court.

History of Mannat and Shahrukh’s connection ‘Mannat’ located in Banda is not just a bungalow but a big landmark of Mumbai. Shahrukh Khan bought it from Gujarati businessman Nariman Dubash in 2001. Earlier its name was ‘Villa Vienna’, which was later changed by Shahrukh to ‘Mannat’. This bungalow has also got heritage status.

Every year on the occasion of Shahrukh’s birthday and Eid, thousands of fans gather outside his bungalow. Shahrukh comes to Mannat’s balcony and greets his fans. Now after this new decision, Mannat’s height will increase by two more floors.
