In the climax scene of the film ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, 500 liters of petrol and 25 kg of gunpowder was used in each tank. This was revealed by the film’s SFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi. He told that the most famous tanker blast scene of the film was completely shot with the help of ‘practical effects’ and zero CGI (computer graphics) was used in it. During this dangerous scene, Ranveer Singh was giving his shot while remaining completely calm amidst the blazing fire and explosions. Real petrol and gunpowder was used. Vishal Tyagi told in an interview given to ‘Hindi Rush’ that director Aditya Dhar wanted to make this scene look very real. Vishal said, “Usually people create a small explosion and make it look big with the help of computers, but Aditya Dhar’s instructions were clear that we should not use CGI for the explosions. Creating the tanker blast in the climax was the most difficult task. We burnt real 500 liters of petrol in it. Safety was our biggest concern because Ranveer Singh had to walk on foot amidst the flames.” Ranveer Singh looked fearless amid the explosion. Ranveer Singh was in the most danger during the shooting because he had to pass very close to the fire. Vishal told that Ranveer was not scared at all. According to Vishal, Ranveer had faith in our team. I had given them exact information about where they had to start walking. After the shot was completed, he happily told me – ‘You tore it!’ Arjun Rampal was also present in this scene, but he was removed from there before the explosive shot, while Ranveer took more risk. There was a lot of pressure on Vishal Tyagi to execute this scene ignoring the production advice. The production team wanted only 250 liters of fuel to be used to reduce costs, but Vishal was adamant on 500 litres. He said, “To get the right visual effect, I had to put 25 kg of gunpowder in each tank. I listened to everyone, but in the end I did what was required for the film. For this, real train bases and containers were used so that the scene looked powerful on the screen.” Dhurandhar 2, the third highest grossing Indian film, has also become the third highest grossing Indian film worldwide. Dhurandhar 2 overtook Allu Arjun’s film Pushpa 2 which earned Rs 1,742.10 crore. Now it is behind only Dangal (₹2070 crore) and Baahubali 2 (₹1,788.06 crore). Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 together earned more than Rs 3,000 crore worldwide. After this it became the first Indian film franchise to earn more than Rs 3,000 crore. When more than one part of a film is made after its success, it takes the form of a franchise.
