WASHINGTON — A teen is in the hospital fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Alexandria last week.
Subhan, 15, was hit by a car along North Van Dorn Street and Holmes Run Parkway Thursday evening. WUSA9 spoke with his family on Tuesday, and they said he is fighting to recover.
Police were called to the intersection on Thursday evening, and when they arrived, officers found Subhan in the roadway. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, according to police.
Police reported Subhan was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. His family says once he arrived, doctors had declared him dead, then successfully resuscitated him. Subhan is currently on life support and in a medically induced coma.
“He is fighting for his life every second. He’s in a coma, he’s in sedation, he’s paralyzed. He’s not opening his eyes at all. He’s not moving,” said his aunt and godmother, Laily Ehsanmad. “Subhan doesn’t deserve what’s happening to him.”
The family says they came to the U.S. last year from Afghanistan to escape the Taliban. Both his parents are currently taking a leave of absence from work to stay by their son’s side while he remains hospitalized.
“That’s why they brought their children to this country, to keep them safe. In a safe environment, in a safe country,” said Subhan’s mother Deeba Rahimi.
They have created a GoFundMe to assist with Subhan’s recovery. If you would like to donate, click here.
Police have not released whether or not the driver of the vehicle will face charges or the cause of the crash at this time. This is an ongoing investigation, and we will update you when we have more information.
