Delhi High Court on Thursday took a strict stand against singer Honey Singh and Badshah. The court has ordered immediate removal of his nearly two decade old controversial song ‘Mafia Mundir’ Volume 1 from all internet platforms. The court has described the lyrics of this song as ‘extremely obscene’ and derogatory towards women. Justice Purushendra Kaurav’s court has issued notice to Honey Singh and Badshah and given strict instructions. The court said that the title and lyrics of the song are so objectionable that it is not possible to write them in the official order. The court directed that the original version, remix and URL of this song be immediately blocked from all music and video sharing platforms like Google, YouTube and Spotify. Court said – ‘Shocked the conscience’ Justice Kaurav made harsh remarks after listening to the song and reading its lyrics in his chamber. He said, this is one of those few cases which has shaken the conscience of the court to the core. It is unfortunate that the lyrics of the song insult women and make them a laughing stock. It has no artistic or social value. The court made it clear that such obscenity under the guise of artistic expression will not be tolerated. Hindu Shakti Dal had filed a petition. This action has been taken on the petition of Hindu Shakti Dal. It was argued in the petition that this song is easily available on digital platforms and is having a negative impact on the youth. The petitioner told the court that during a recent concert, Honey Singh had sung some lines of this song, which proves that this song is his. After this, the court has also instructed the Central Government to block the disputed link. Such content is not allowed to earn money. The court said that spreading such content on public platforms, which is also available to minors, is not good for the society. Justice Kaurav said, the standards of decency are being ignored in the society. No law-abiding civilized society can allow such content to become a means of earning money. The next hearing of this case has now been fixed for May 7.
