Adivi Shesh will soon be seen in ‘Dacait: A Love Story’. Mrunal Thakur is also with her in the film. Adivi talked to Dainik Bhaskar – Why did you choose the title ‘Dacoit’ despite it being a love story? The idea of the film is a combination of our cinematic passion and nostalgia. Me and my close friend and director Shani, we both are fans of classic cowboy films like ‘The Magnificent Seven’ and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’. For a long time, I wanted to work on a love story, but I did not want to see it in a traditional form. We thought, what if an ‘Angry Love Story’ was woven amidst that creepy cowboy atmosphere of scorching desert, railway tracks, guns and bloodshed? Just this imagination gave birth to ‘Dacoit’. It is actually a love story set in the violent backdrop of a heist, where a very subtle and deep conflict of love and hate goes on between two characters. Is the lead pair completely connected to the heist? See, when the environment is so harsh, then the characters also have to adapt to the same colors. This is the reason why this story has emerged as a completely different and unique combination. Generally, audiences either watch a film full of action, or a love story where emotions flow in tears and songs. But we changed this thinking a bit. We decided that this time we would talk about love, but not in that soft, innocent way, but with anger, confrontation and sharp emotions. That is, this is a love story where emotions do not remain suppressed, but come out openly, loudly and sometimes shouting. Which untouched aspect of love have you touched in this film? The love story of the film ‘Dacait’ is not limited to traditional social conflicts like caste, religion or rich-poverty. Its center is the inner feelings of the characters and their personal experiences. Here love is shown as a very personal feeling, which can be as deep as the relationship between parent and child. When emotions become so personal, their impact becomes unique. The story explores why a relationship becomes special and what changes inside when it breaks, this is its real strength. ‘How was the action and its choreography for you? I am known for my action choreography. I don’t do ‘mass’ films regularly, rather I like ‘hyper-real’ action, which looks real and glamorous as well. If someone is flying in the air in my film, there must be a logical reason behind it. The director of this film, Sunil, who is also a very good friend of mine, did the cinematography. He has now become a director. We have brought the American sensibility that both of us have towards action in this film. We have used Hollywood techniques and the way they cut and direct the action. You can call it a combination of Indian soul and American technique. When did you first talk to Anurag Kashyap about this project? It was the wedding of my friend Shobhita Dhulipala and Naga Chaitanya, where Anurag Kashyap was also present. As soon as I saw the opportunity, I held Anurag Sir’s hand and in the same environment started telling him the story of ‘Dacoit’. It was during the wedding celebrations that I pitched him for the film and that is how he became a part of our project.
