Anshuman Pushkar and Mahvash will soon be seen in the web series ‘Satrangi Badla Ka Khel’. Both the artists, who emerged from small towns and made a name for themselves on the basis of their hard work and talent, had a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. In the interview, he spoke openly about his struggle, rejection, love, small town thinking and his acting journey. Anshuman talked about how certain characters affect her deeply, while Mahvash shared her experiences of building a career after fighting with her first love and family. Both also told how much hard work, pain and emotional struggles are hidden behind success. Question: How much can you relate to the character of Bablu in ‘Satrangi Badla Ka Khel’? Answer/Anshuman: I can connect with both the things. On one hand there is a broken emotional side of Bablu and on the other hand there is a feeling of revenge within him. But if I have to choose one thing, I connect more with his pain and the reasons that lead to his feeling of revenge. The discrimination and injustice he faces in the society is his biggest problem. Question: Which character in Laali and Bablu is closer to you? Answer/Anshuman: Both the characters are very close to me. I loved performing since childhood. I liked dancing at weddings and going on stage, but it was not considered very good in that environment. That’s why I connect with the character of Lali. At the same time, like Bablu, I too had a desire to do something big and good since childhood. He had the passion to work hard and go to every limit. That’s why I feel very connected to Bablu also. Question: Mahvash, how much do you relate to your character Aarti? Answer/Mahvash: I connect with the character of Aarti a lot. She can go to any extent for her people and I am also like that. I see right and wrong very clearly. During college, I also stood for university elections. If I see something wrong in the society, I speak against it. Same thing is in Aarti also. Question: Do you still remember your first love? Answer/Mahvash: First love is always remembered. I used to stand outside his coaching center with my scooter, just to see him. In winter, she would wake up early in the morning and wait to see her school bus. That feeling was very special. Question: Anshuman, have you ever had extreme love with anyone? Answer/Anshuman: I have always been very filmy. Even during my school days, I thought this was love. But to be honest, I could never talk properly to the girls I liked. He was just happy from a distance. But when there is true love, then its depth is understood. That feeling is very intense. Question: What changed the most after coming to Mumbai from a small town? Answer/Mahvash: I was very innocent, but after coming to this city I have to hide my emotions. There is a lot of competition here. There is a fear that someone might take advantage of your goodness. That’s why we have to make ourselves strong. I still miss that innocence. Question: Is love today no longer the same as before? Answer/Anshuman: Today everything has started happening very fast. Earlier people used to feel love, used to wait for it. Now the depth in relationships is decreasing. I think real love requires more heart than intelligence. Good poetry, music and stories come from a broken heart. Question: Any insult or struggle in life that you still remember? Answer/Mahvash: Once I had to go on a school tour and it was raining a lot. We didn’t have a car. I told my father to borrow a car from the neighbor. But he refused. Later father went to drop me on bicycle in the rain. That day I thought that one day I would definitely get my father a car of his choice. I remember that moment when I bought my first car. Question: How did you face rejection in the world of acting? Answer/Anshuman: Many times in auditions people were rejected without any reason by saying ‘not fit’. I felt bad in the beginning, but I never held bitterness in my mind towards anyone. If someone used to say that I was a bad actor, I would think that maybe I have to work harder. Those things kept motivating me to become better. Question: Mahvash, where did your struggle begin? Answer/Mahvash: In our place, girls’ fights start very early. First one has to convince the family that one has to go out and study. Then there is the pressure of marriage. I also got engaged at a young age, which later broke. If I had gone back, my life might have been completely different. Therefore, after coming to this city, I had only one way – to do something. Question: How much changed in life after ’12th Fail’? Answer/Anshuman: There has not been much change, but people’s confidence has increased. It was very special for me to be a part of a successful film like ’12th Fail’. Every project pushes you forward a little bit. I feel the journey is still ongoing and a lot remains to be done. Question: Which was the most special compliment you received? Answer/Anshuman: After watching ‘Grahan’, my theater seniors said that they did not know that I could connect so deeply emotionally with a character. He was very special to me. Mahvash: Recently I got a call from director Jai Singh. He said that he got goosebumps after seeing my reaction in a scene. That compliment will always be remembered.
