Earnings of Ritesh’s film ‘Raja Shivaji’ cross Rs 50 crore: included in top-5 Marathi films; Demand for tax-free in Maharashtra

The film ‘Raja Shivaji’, directed by Riteish Deshmukh, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the box office. Based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, this film was released in both Marathi and Hindi languages. However, on the fifth day of release (Tuesday), the film’s earnings saw a slight decline. According to the report of SACNILC, on Tuesday, the film made a net collection of around Rs 3.35 crore in the Marathi version. This is about 20.4% less than Monday. Talking about the total net collection of the film so far, it has reached Rs 44 crore. The contribution of Marathi version in this is the highest at Rs 30.5 crore. Benefiting from word-of-mouth, the India gross collection of the film has now crossed Rs 52.68 crore. The Hindi version had a slightly slower start than the Marathi version, but due to reviews and word-of-mouth, the film’s earnings are increasing in the Hindi belt too. With this collection, ‘Raja Shivaji’ has joined the list of top-5 highest grossing Marathi films of all time. Demand to make it tax-free in Maharashtra Amidst the success of the film, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve has raised the demand to make it tax-free in Maharashtra. Danve has written a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis saying that this film conveys the great works of Shivaji Maharaj to the youth and the public. He demanded that the film be made tax-free so that tickets are cheaper and more and more people can go and watch it in theatres. The film has a big star cast. In this film, released on May 1, Ritesh Deshmukh has not only played the lead role but has also directed it himself. Big stars like Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, Bhagyashree and Genelia Deshmukh have been seen in important roles in the film. Apart from these, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amol Gupte have also played important roles in the film.
