Bollywood actor R Madhavan has spoken openly on the challenges of increasing age, life planning and keeping oneself relevant in a rapidly changing world.
Madhavan believes that because of medical science, people are now living longer than before, but very few people are prepared for the difficulties that come after retirement.

Choosing roles according to your age In a podcast with Varun Dua, Madhavan told that he is now playing only those roles which match his real life and age. Referring to his web series ‘Legacy’, he said, “I am doing roles which are appropriate for my age. Compared to last time, my hair has become grayer than ever before and I accept it.”
It is now possible to live for 90 to 100 years Talking about the developments in medical science, Madhavan said that longevity is now becoming normal. He said, “If you remain healthy and take care of your lifestyle, then living for 90 years is no longer a big deal. Now it is becoming possible to live for 100 years, but with this the challenges of old age have also increased.”

Physical dependence is the biggest fear When Madhavan was asked about his biggest fear, he answered candidly. The actor said, “My biggest fear is being dependent on someone, be it physically or financially. This situation is worse than hell for me. I cannot compromise with my dignity and self-respect. I should always be able to contribute to the society.”
Madhavan’s thoughts on retirement planning Explaining the stages of life, Madhavan said that the first 30 years are spent in studying and planning. The next 30 years are about building a career and family, but after the age of 60 there is a pause. He said, “After 60, no one has any plan for the next 30 years.
After retirement you suddenly lose your power and identity. Till yesterday you were ‘Sir’, today you are just a common citizen. “People underestimate the mental impact of this change.”
