Punjabi singer Karan Aujla will not be able to sing his 6 songs in the show to be held in Bengaluru today. Chandigarh Prof. Following the complaint sent by Pandit Rao Dharennavar, the District Child Protection Unit, Bengaluru has issued a notice to him. Also, instructions have been given to the police to implement this order. The song ‘Gangsta’ is not allowed to be sung under any circumstances. These instructions have been issued with the aim of protecting the mental health of children and preventing negative effects on them. Professor Rao had raised these four questions in his complaint. There was a demand to ban these songs. Karan Aujla should not be allowed to sing some of his special songs like ‘Adhiya’, ‘Chitta Kurta’, ‘Alcohol 2’, ‘Few Days’ (Tadke Uth Ke Khade Feem Kude), ‘Bandook’ and especially ‘Gangsta’. Addiction and gun culture – The complaint alleged that the songs glorify alcohol, drugs and gun culture. Bad effect on children – Rao argued that such songs have a very bad effect on the mental health of tender-minded children (especially children above 5 years of age, who were allowed in the show). Court citation – In his complaint, he also cited an old order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court (PIL CWP/27011/2016), in which the court had held that such songs negatively affect underage children. After this, taking cognizance of the complaint issued, the District Child Protection Unit has issued an official instruction to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Bengaluru. The unit has asked the police to ensure that singing of these songs is banned during the programme. In support of its action, the unit has cited the observation of the Punjab and Haryana High Court that such songs affect the mental health of young children. This step has been taken solely with the aim of protecting the mental health of children and preventing negative effects on them.
