A police complaint has been filed against the makers of the film Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Ranveer Singh, which has earned Rs 900 crore at the box office. A Sikh organization in Mumbai has accused the film’s makers and lead actor Ranveer Singh of hurting religious sentiments.
An organization named ‘Sikhs in Maharashtra’ has given this complaint at Mulund Police Station in Mumbai. The organization says that Sikh dignity has been violated in a poster of the film.
Objection to cigarettes with Sikh symbols
According to the organization, a poster of the film shows Ranveer Singh wearing a turban, long beard and a bracelet in his hand, which are very sacred symbols of Sikhism. In this look, the actor is shown holding a cigarette in his hand. The organization says that this portrayal has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.
Police are investigating the matter
Police officials said on Wednesday that this complaint was received on March 17. At present the matter is being investigated and no FIR has been registered yet. In its complaint, the organization has demanded strict action against the film’s director, producer and Ranveer Singh.
R. Madhavan has also been accused
Before this R. Madhavan has been accused of smoking a cigarette while reciting lines from Guru Gobind Singh’s ‘Dasham Granth’ in the film. However, seeing the controversy increasing, Madhavan has apologized on this. While giving clarification, Madhavan had said, I want to clarify that this is a complete misunderstanding.
Director Aditya Dhar takes great care of these things. During the shooting, he had given me clear instructions that before speaking these sacred lines, the cigarette should be extinguished and smoke should not be visible on the screen. That’s what I did. I did not have a cigarette in my hand while speaking the dialogue.
Madhavan became emotional and said that he did not want to hurt anyone’s sentiments even unknowingly. He said, “We stand with the entire Sikh community. Everyone knows that I myself go to the Golden Temple before the release of each of my films.
I definitely had a cigarette in my hand at the beginning of the scene, but as soon as the sacred lines started, I had extinguished it. There is no sign of smoke or cigarette anywhere in the film during any dialogue.”
