Actor Kranti Prakash Jha, who came into limelight with his powerful character in the web series ‘Sankalp’, believes that working with veteran director Prakash Jha is like learning in a school. Kranti says that being a part of this project was like destiny for him. In the show, he got a chance to share the screen with the great actor Nana Patekar, which he considers a great privilege of his career. From preparation for his character to memorable moments of shooting and the growing importance of OTT, Kranti Prakash Jha spoke openly about his experiences, challenges and upcoming projects in an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar. Here are some special excerpts from the conversation.. How did you get involved with the web series ‘Sankalp’? To be honest, I consider it my destiny. You keep working hard for years and suddenly one day your dream comes true. I got a call from the show’s producer Disha ji, after which I went to meet Prakash Jha sir. After meeting him, things were finalized and he selected me for this role. It is a matter of luck for me that I got a chance to be a part of such a big project. How was the experience of working with Prakash Jha? I consider him more of a teacher than a director. He has the same relationship with artists that a guru has with his disciple. They explain every detail very well. But yes, you always have to be on alert while working with them, because you have to prove their vision right. They have trusted you, so your responsibility increases to justify their decision. What were the main challenges you faced while shooting the series? The biggest challenge was to live up to Jha sir’s vision and justify it. One had to understand the reason behind each scene, each comma, each word and perform to the best of one’s ability. If people are liking it after coming out, then Jha Sir will have the biggest role in it. How was the atmosphere on the set with other actors (Sanjay Kapoor, Zeeshan, Kubbra Sait)? Most of my scenes were with Nana sir, I don’t have scenes with Sanjay Kapoor ji but the atmosphere on the set was like a family. The rest were my own personal scenes. We all used to eat food together. The best thing about Prakash Jha sir’s set is that everyone is given equality there. Be it a big actor or a new one, everyone is treated the same. This discipline and equality is really worth learning. How fortunate was it for you to work with Nana Patekar? This is the biggest fortune for an actor. The beauty of the format of this series is that I got the opportunity to work with two legends. On one hand, a veteran director like Prakash Jha sir and on the other hand a great artist like Nana Patekar sir. It was a matter of great pride and learning for me to share the screen with Nana sir. Prakash Jha Sir often repeats the artistes, is there any talk about further work? All he said was, “You are a long race horse.” Only time will tell the rest. Not every person can fit in every character, but I have full hope that in future if there is any character in which they need me, then they will definitely call me. Are you family related to Prakash Jha, as some people think? Many people think this because our surname (Jha) is the same, but it is not so. The relationship between us is like that of teacher and student. The interesting thing is that the day my parents named me ‘Kranti Prakash Jha’, perhaps it was written in my destiny that someday I would work with ‘Prakash Jha’ sir. What is the update about your upcoming projects and ‘Raktanchal 3’? The third season of ‘Raktanchal’ has been officially announced. Now it will come on Amazon MX. It may be released in the next two-three months, you can see its poster on MX’s page. Apart from this, some projects are also in the pipeline. What was your special preparation for this series? Nothing is normal for me. I treat every scene as my last scene. There is a kind of darkness in this character (Kasturi), which is not in my personal nature. That’s why I isolated myself from everyone 10 days before the shooting so that I could capture that intensity. Then when you have such great actors and great directors with you, you have to give your best. It is a challenge, and there is no room for laziness. What was the most memorable moment of the shooting? My first scene was the most memorable. That was the most heavy and intense scene of the series where there is a confrontation between ‘Maat Saheb’ and ‘Kasturi’. I was told in the morning that the heaviest scene had to be shot today. On one side, the great Prakash Jha sir was behind the camera and the great Nana Patekar sir was in front. I can never forget that moment. How do you see the importance of OTT in your career? OTT is a very good medium. It has opened up new avenues for writers, editors, musicians and actors. Today, power is in the hands of the public and now we do not have to depend only on cinema halls. This is a new dimension where there is no dearth of work. Apart from acting, will you also try your hand in direction or production in future? Of course, I would like to make and direct films in the future. Especially I want to do films in my language (Bihari languages). As I have been doing before also. It requires right time, place and money. When God gives a chance, I will definitely do it.
