A press conference was held in the capital Delhi on Monday regarding the film ‘The Kerala Story-2: Goes Beyond’. Filmmaker Vipul Amritlal Shah and director Kamakhya Narayan Singh, while speaking to the media, spoke at length about both the subject of the film and the controversy it has sparked due to the alleged real events behind it. Presence of 33 victims At the press conference, producer Vipul Shah introduced more than 30 people whom he described as actual victims of forced conversion. According to Shah, these victims came from various parts of the country, including Bengal, Bihar, Bhilwara, Gangapur, Rajkot, Mayur, Mumbai, Bhopal, Jharkhand, Delhi-NCR and many districts. These people narrated their personal painful stories to the media. Many women including Jharkhand’s national shooter Tara Shahdev came on stage and shared their stories. Tara told how a person lured her into marriage and later when the truth came out, she faced the police and faced many legal battles. It was clear from her words that she felt helpless, deceived and alone. What did producer Vipul Shah say? Vipul Shah said that ever since the first film ‘The Kerala Story’ was released, people kept saying that love jihad and forced conversions were not happening in India. Shah stressed that the aim of his next film is to show this to the world. He said, “We brought these victims with us so that they could share that pain with the world in their own words.” Statement of Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh said that there are needy women who felt that they were helpless. She further said that the film is based on similar experiences that women in India are facing even today. Background of controversy ‘The Kerala Story-2’ has already been hit by controversies even before its release. Controversy has arisen over a scene in the trailer in which a woman is force-fed beef. Regarding this, film director Anurag Kashyap has called the film propaganda and said that it promotes division in the society. Apart from this, a petition has also been filed in the court on the review of the film and the decision of the Censor Board, in which people are raising questions on the promotional content of the film. Many people believe that the plot depicted in the film may increase misunderstandings between different communities in the society. The press conference held in Delhi has again brought The Kerala Story-2 to the center of national debate. While the producers of the film call it a project that sheds light on social problems through real victim stories, opponents call it hard-line communal propaganda and divisive. The controversy continues, and the film is set to release on the big screens on 27 February 2026.
