Aamir Khan has broken his silence on this issue for the first time amid Sonam Wangchuk’s fast unto death that has been going on for almost three weeks. Questions were being raised about his silence on social media for a long time. Now Aamir has said that he is worried about Sonam Wangchuk’s health and hopes that she will end her fast soon. But at the same time Aamir has said that the film 3 Idiots is not made on Sonam Wangchuk.
During the screening of the film Lagaan at the London Indian Film Festival, a woman asked Aamir Khan on Sonam Wangchuk, ‘When we were growing up, you had a deep impact on us. You have also been inspired by Sonam Wangchuk.
On this Aamir interrupted and said, ‘No, this is a misconception. When the film was being made, I didn’t even know Sonam. I just watched Chatur’s (3 Idiots actor Omi Vaid) video, but he is wrong. Neither Rajkumar Hirani, nor our writer nor I knew about Sonam. Although Sonam is doing the right thing in every way. We should respect him and his work. Sonam herself has also said that the character of 3 Idiots is not made on her.
Further, Aamir said on Sonam Wangchuk’s fast, ‘Everyone is worried about her health and life. We hope everything will end well. We all hope that he ends his fast and takes care of his health.
In fact, engineer, education reformer and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk is on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 in protest against the Cockroach Janata Party. He is protesting against alleged examination irregularities and issues related to the education system. There are reports of his health deteriorating due to his continuous fast, after which many political leaders and film personalities have also expressed concern.

On the 16th day of Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike, Omi Vaidya, who played the role of Chatur Ramalingam in ‘3 Idiots’, released a video saying, ‘I do not want this person to die. For me he is an inspirational person. I want him to be safe and alive.
In the video he said, I don’t make such videos often, so listen to me carefully. Do you know that Aamir Khan’s character Phunsukh Wangdu in 3 Idiots was inspired by real-life Ladakh-based engineer, innovator, teacher and social reformer Sonam Wangchuk?
Omi further said,
I have met him. He is a very interesting and simple person. He has done many great things in his life. So I would ask you to know about him and see what he is doing at the moment. At present Sonam Wangchuk is on hunger strike for a long time. Several weeks have passed and his blood sugar has dropped significantly.
I don’t know whether you have heard about it or not, or how much media is covering it, but it is a very serious matter. Why is he on hunger strike? Because he is concerned about India’s education system, some issues related to Ladakh and the environment. Whether you agree with him or not, I definitely want to say that I do not want this person to die. To me he is an inspirational person and I want him to be safe and alive.

Sonakshi said – It is not possible to remain silent now
Actress Sonakshi Sinha, while sharing the video on Instagram, said that she had never given a public statement like this before, but this time it was not possible to remain silent. He said that Sonam Wangchuk is known for her work and achievements for the country. According to him, Wangchuk is fasting for the future of the students whom he considers to be in danger. He said that this is a fight against a system whose functioning is being questioned.
Sonakshi said that the youth of the country are raising their voice, but dialogue is not starting on this issue. She said that she is also the youth of the country and wants the well-being of the country, hence she decided to express her views publicly.
She also said, “I just want to ask when will it be enough? When these people die, will you wake up? And whose responsibility will it be? What is happening is not right. That’s all I want to say.”
Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh wrote on social media that it has been 19 days now and one should not wait so long to listen to someone. He said that a person like Sonam Wangchuk, who has contributed a lot to the country, should not put his health at stake to express his views. Fatima said that whatever be the political views, it is important to protect the future of the students. He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved through talks and Sonam Wangchuk’s health would remain safe. He also appealed to support the youth for a better future.

Surendra Sharma appealed to Sonam Wangchuk
Poet Surendra Sharma released a video message in the name of Sonam Wangchuk. He made an emotional appeal to Wangchuk to end his fast unto death. Sharma said that the country needs leadership like Sonam Wangchuk, hence one should not put one’s life at stake for the resignation of any minister.
He said that the country is bigger than any one resignation and crores of youth today consider Wangchuk as their voice. Sharma said that if anything happens to them, the hopes of the youth will be shattered. In the end he appealed to Wangchuk to end his fast in the interest of the country and continue the struggle.
