After marrying for the third time, actor Aamir Khan is being called the brand ambassador of Love Jihad on social media. Aamir has given clarification on these allegations.
In a conversation with the website Rediff, Aamir said – In all three of my marriages, none of my wives converted because the marriages were civil marriages. The third wife Gauri is not a Hindu but a Christian.
Aamir said- My daughter Ira is married to a Hindu. The husbands of my two sisters Nikhat Khan and Farhat Khan are also Hindus. Cousin Mansoor is married to a Christian.
Aamir Khan’s third wife Gauri Spratt’s father is of Tamil-British origin and her mother is of Punjabi-Irish origin.

Actor Aamir Khan and his partner Gauri Spratt got married on July 5. Both of them signed the marriage papers at Aamir’s house in Pali Hill (Bandra), Mumbai. What does Indian law say on third marriage?
Third marriage is not illegal in India. The law only looks at whether a person’s previous marriage has been legally ended at the time of the marriage.
If the first and second marriages have been legally divorced or the spouses have passed away, the third marriage is completely valid. But remarrying without divorce can be considered bigamy and is a legal offence. In such a situation, under Section 82 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), the marriage will be invalid and there can be a jail term of 7 years.
Only under Muslim Personal Law, a Muslim man is allowed to marry maximum 4 at a time. If the marriage is being registered under the ‘Special Marriage Act’, then this exemption is lost and the rule of monogamy applies there too.
In the case of Aamir Khan, he got a legal divorce from his first wife Reena Dutta in 2002 and from his second wife Kiran Rao in 2021. In such a situation, his marriage with Gauri Spratt will be considered valid.
