In 2013, the Government of India announced the award of Padma Bhushan to him, but he did not accept the honour. He said that South Indian artists often get recognition at the national level late and they were given this honor very late. He also said that South Indian artists do not get their due rights. She also gave credit for her success to the musicians and lyricists. The duo of him and SP Balasubrahmanyam is considered to be one of the most successful duos of Indian film music. Both of them sang thousands of duets together. After being active for nearly six decades, she herself announced in 2017 that she would no longer make new recordings. She said, ‘I have sung a lot, now I want to rest.’ He punctuated his singing career with a concert in Mysore. Son died in January. S. Janaki was married to V. Ramprasad in the year 1959.
